.In this June 26, 2023, photo drawn from the International Spaceport station, direct sunlight polishes off the soft waters of the Alabama Stream in a phenomenon known as sunglint. When capturing Earth, astronauts frequently benefit from sunglint's tendency to improve the contrast in between water areas and concerning land surface areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama Waterway was dammed, developing Dannelly Storage tank (the large shining location at facility left). Development of the dam also brought up water table upriver. This caused flooding at many aspects along the waterway. These disaster area are actually normal of flood plains-- the poor, level regions quickly alongside bigger rivers. In this image, disaster area look like rough, intense designs extending far from the waterway, like at Gee's Bend (center bottom).Text Credit History: Justin Wilkinson.Graphic Credit: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
